Government urged not to allow black cabs' imports

Chairman, Association of Auto parts Exporters, Tahir Javed Malik, has urged the government not to allow duty-free import of black cabs in the larger interest of local engineering and auto industry.
In a statement issued here on Monday, Javed Malik said that the duty-free import of tractors, vehicles and vehicle parts had already taken the trade deficit to alarming levels.
He said that permission to import black cabs would virtually destroy the auto industry, which was performing well. He was of the view that the import of black cabs would on the one hand be detrimental to the industry while on the other it would bring a new wave of unemployment and poverty.
