The Punjab government has decided to set up "burn units" in all district headquarters in the province to provide immediate medical treatment to the burned persons at their doorstep and work on this project would be undertaken shortly.
Official sources told Business Recorder here on Sunday that a two-year healthcare programme, costing rupees six billion, had been initiated to provide modern and timely treatment facilities to the masses in the province.
Apart from this, the government was mobilising more than Rs 3.50 billion on the upgradation of basic health units and rural health centres, tehsil and district headquarter hospitals while latest medical equipment, medicines and doctors would be ensured, said the sources.
They said the government was also making strenuous efforts for improving the emergency wards in all government hospitals to ensure sufficient treatment facilities to the patients.
Besides, school health programme had been started, under which medical check-up of students would be ensured in an organised manner, which would be incumbent upon every health centre in its respective area. The health and education departments, they said, would supervise the programme, while schoolteachers would be responsible for maintaining complete health record of the students in the Punjab.
