A study on selected textile spinning units by German-based Werner Consultancy has pinpointed loopholes in the management of the entire supply chain vis-à-vis China, India and Bangladesh etc.
In the light of declining textile export, the Ministry of Textile (Mintex) and All Pakistan Textiles Mills Association (APTMA) jointly sought help of Werner Consultancy.
Minister for Textile, Mushtaq Ali Cheema, on Wednesday reviewed the benchmark study of spinning sector by Werner consultants. Secretary Syed Masood Alam Rizvi and officials of Mintex, and Ministry of Commerce also attended the review meeting. According to sources, two studies on spinning and weaving sectors have already been carried out. The consultants gave presentation on spinning sector while the presentation on weaving sector will be made on December 19, the remaining studies will be completed in two months.
The study by Werner Consultants converged on performance parameters such as technology, yarn quality, quality control, preventive maintenance, waste control, machine efficiency and labour productivity. The sources said, the consultants after visiting several spinning units have expressed satisfaction on their performance and found some of the units have state-of-the-art technology but have serious reservations on employees' skills.
