In order to ensure provision of electricity to citizens, especially those living in slums and Katchi Abadis, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 'smart green energy for the masses' was signed between Sindh Information Technology (IT) department and a German firm Future Environment Solutions Holding (Fesh) here on Wednesday.
Gerd Micheal Burow of (Fesh) and IT Secretary Yahya Waliullah signed the MoU. Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister for Information Technology Nauman Saigal, Najeeb Siddiqi, representative of the German firm and others were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Nauman Saigal said this project would ensure provision of electricity to the slums of the city, adding that under this system solar panel would be installed that could run four bulbs and a fan.
He informed that these solar panels would cost Rs 30000 per house and leasing facility would be provided to intending citizens to acquire them on easy terms and conditions.
The adviser said this project would be completely pollution-free, and work on sunny days. He said according to Suparco report, Karachi enjoys some 300 sunny days every year. He said that a backup system would keep this system running for three days in absence of sunlight.
The advisor informed that the firm had also installed a desalination plant at Ibrahim Haideri. He said that City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal would formally inaugurate it on January 3, 2007.
