City Naib Nazim Nasrin Jalil has said that a plan for construction of flyovers at all the traffic pressure points in co-operation with Japan, is under consideration for solving traffic problems in Karachi.
This she stated while speaking as chief guest at a workshop organised by Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro) on "Karachi Flyover study in line with Karachi Strategic Master Plan. The workshop was also addressed by Jetro team members Shigeki Tkahashi, Hiroyuki Miyakawa, Haruo Takeda besides EDO Transport Mohammed Athar and others.
Nasrin Jalil referred to fast track development process in Karachi and said it is a good omen that for the first time all the concerned departments are making joint efforts for infrastructure development. She pointed out that a mass transit system is most important for any mega city and an efficient underground railway system in many countries is an example before us.
She informed that at present there are 1.5 million vehicles registered in Karachi and an average 300 to 400 are added to this number daily. Naib Nazim mentioned about the construction of three flyovers and three under-passes for signal-free corridor from Sharea Faisal to SITE.
