Information and Broadcasting Minister Muhammad Ali Durrani said on Wednesday the government is standing firm to uphold the national cause and there is no shift in its policy to solve the core issue of Kashmir in accordance with the aspirations of Kashmiris.
Talking to media persons at the Parliament House, he said: "Islamabad has consistent stance which has not changed and our policy is to resolve the Kashmir issue through peaceful means."
Due to President General Pervez Musharraf's efforts the world today has acknowledged that the Pak-India composite dialogue is the way to find a peaceful solution to Kashmir issue and this is what the people of the two countries also want.
Durrani said there is indigenous resistance in the occupied Kashmir which has transformed into a "national movement," he said, adding that for peace in region the aspirations of Kashmiris have to be respected.
To a question about possibility of a PML-PPPP alliance, the minister ruled it out and said the two parties have policy and ideological differences and their own different vote banks and prospective candidates.
"We cannot pass on our credibility and achievements of seven years to any other party by having an alliance with it," he added. He said President Musharraf has promoted democracy in the country and the PML(Q) is strong and enjoys public confidence. "We do not need develop an alliance with any party", he added.
Durrani said the next general elections would be transparent and the nation would decide the fate of political parties on the basis of their performance and service to the national cause.
To a question about Opposition threats of anti-government movement, the minister said up to 25 so-called movements had been launched against the government in recent years and each failed to bring people onto the streets. He urged the political parties to abandon the politics of movements and agitation and fulfil their responsibility to strengthen the political institutions.
Terming the President's recent visit to Balochistan as a historic event and highly successful, he said that participation of over 50,000 people, including a large number of women, demonstrated the public trust in country's leadership. Durrani said the President told the people that development of Balochistan is, in fact, the development of the country and assured the Baloch people of their rights besides, announcing special package for the youth as well as amnesty for those misled by subversive elements.
He said a committee was preparing a package with regard to provincial autonomy which would be submitted to PML president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain for further steps.
