The Businessmen Panel (BP) will announce its candidates for Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) president and vice presidents for 2007-08, in its meeting convened for December 17, in Lahore.
BP chairman Tariq Sayeed and co-chairman, Iftikhar Ali Malik, will consult their group leaders before making a formal announcement for BP panel for FPCCI top positions.
A BP leader said, "We have called a meeting of the group leaders at Iftikhar Ali Malik's residence in Lahore to make formal announcement of the candidate for FPCCI top positions for the next term."
BP had swept both phases of FPCCI elections and secured overwhelming majority for the managing committee. The new committee will vote for FPCCI president and 7 vice presidents. The elections for FPCCI president and vice presidents will be held on December 23.
Since the rival group had perished in both phases of associations elections, FPCCI president and vice presidents elections will be just a formality of BP. BP had elevated Shaikh Tanveer of Multan for FPCCI top slot for next two years and its main leaders are of the view that the announcement on December 17, will be only its endorsement. However, BP is yet to open its card of vice presidents. It's likely to give representation to all the regions to give FPCCI federating touch in real sense.
BP leadership will decide its senior team for FPCCI offices on merit in such a way that all regions get due representation and play equal role in making FPCCI a vibrant body to give the government input on economic and trade polices besides facilitating the traders and industrialists to help them meet the new challenges besides completing its unfinished agenda.
Its leadership wants early completion of federal office of FPCCI in Islamabad as well as exhibition centre and special economic zone in Lahore. It also plans to form a think tank to formulate guidelines for the FPCCI. It also wants more active role from the government side in the future.
BP leadership feels that the officials who were directly linked with exports and trade were not playing their due role. It holds them responsible of downslide in the country's exports in the first five months of the current fiscal year.
