The Punjab government has prepared a comprehensive programme to promote small and medium enterprises (SME) sector in the province. Under the programme, the SMEs industrial estates would be developed in various cities, including Sialkot, and the work on the project would be initiated soon, official sources told Business Recorder here on Thursday.
They said that the step was being taken to promote local industries and mitigate the problems confronting the SMEs in Punjab. They said that huge funds had been set aside for extending loan facilities to the SMEs and other interested persons. So far, they said, loans, amounting to rupees one billion, had been advanced to businesswomen and other interested persons for setting up new industrial units and upgrading existing workplaces. Apart from this, special attention would also be accorded to establish agro-based and dairy industries in far-off areas of the province, they said.
