President of International Association of Universities (IAU) Professor Gulam Mohammedbhai will arrive here on Friday on a 3-day visit to Pakistan. His various activities in Karachi include a dinner reception in his honour by Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology on December 15.
IAU is United Nation Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) based world-wide Association of Higher Education Institutions. Professor Gulam Mohammedbhai is the former vice-chancellor of the University of Mauritius, a posting he held from 1995 to 2005.
He studied civil engineering at Manchester University, UK from where he obtained his Bachelors and Doctorate degrees. He did his postgraduate research at the University of California, Berkley under a Fullbright-Hays Award.
At the regional/international level, Professor Ghulam has been a member or Chairman of several Unesco committees on higher education for Africa and chairman of several university associations including the Association of Commonwealth Universities (2003-2004), the University Mobility in the Indian Ocean Rim (2001 2004) and the University of Indian Association (1998-2005).
