Federal Minister for Provincial Coordination Saleem Saifullah Khan on Thursday said that a committee headed by Wasim Sajjad have accelerated its work for preparation of proposals for granting maximum provincial autonomy to the federating units of the country. The committee was due to submit its report by the end of the current calendar year.
Talking to journalists here at his residence, he said he was the staunch supporter of provincial rights adding that his ministry is working to ensure maximum provincial rights. "In first instance, we have re-established Council of Common Interest (CCI)," he maintained.
The present government, he said had passed Women Protection Bill with an aim of guaranteeing women's rights and their participation in the country affairs. He asked the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal to stop getting political mileage of the bill and should concentrate on their own performance instead of making hue and cry against the passage of WPB.
He appreciated PPP-Parliamentarians for extending support to the passage of the WPB saying that Pakistan Muslim League could make a coalition government with PPP-Parliamentarians in future.
Criticising Hasba Act, he said it would push the province towards backwardness therefore Centre would critically examine the bill and would nullify the act if found repugnant to the constitution and country's interest.
