To discourage the land mafia and speculation trade in real estate, especially in Karachi, the Sindh government is mulling over banning transfer of leased properties in Katchi Abadis for at least five years.
In this regard Sindh Minister for Local Government, Katchi Abadis and Spatial Development Muhammad Hussain addressing an open Katchary in Orangi on Saturday evening said that the provincial government was considering a restriction of five years on transfer of properties in Katchi Abadis after lease.
He said that there were several complaints that land mafia was benefiting from transfer of properties in the Katchi Abadis, as they purchased leased properties there on cheaper rates and later sale them at very high rates in real estate market.
The minister said that Orangi was neglected by previous city administration, which resulted in increase in civic problems. He said that present administration at city and town level was solving these problems and development works worth Rs 2.5 billion had been initiated in Orangi.
He said uplift schemes worth Rs 55 billion were under execution in various parts of the city, simultaneously. He said some vested interests were hatching conspiracies only to fulfil their nefarious designs, as they knew that of the uplift projects were completed, their negative politics would end forever.
It may be recalled that regularisation of Goths and Katchi Abadis in Karachi is amongst the most urgent and vital issues as some 40 percent of population of Karachi reside in these slum areas.
