Advisor and HEC professor at Comsats Institute of Information Technology Islamabad Professor Dr A.Q Mughal has urged upon the universities teachers to adopt new teaching methods by involving students and produce confident graduates who serve the country for a sustainable development.
He was delivering a lecture on Teaching and Research in Universities and HEC Support programs" at the University's senate hall here on Saturday. Deans of various faculties, Heads of teaching institutes and departments of the University of Sindh attended the lecture. Dr Mughal said that he was a part of the University of Sindh as member syndicate. As such, it was his responsibility to make the university faculty are about conducive environment in field of higher education and research.
Dr Mughal said that in the present time the government through Higher Education Commission has been providing proper funding to public sector universities for research in all key areas.
He said that Rs16 billion has been allocated by HEC for the research purpose in all areas for encouragement of scholars to develop research projects and after peer review the scholar has been getting proper funding in required subject. He said that it is most important that a teacher should display his love for teaching and also show love for his profession.
He said that attitude and character is also an important in teaching profession and also delivery of lecture with proper teaching mechanism would help to students in understanding of subject. He said that with effective communication is also essential for delivering lecture and also need to change question style for the examination purpose.
He said that research is integral part of teacher and added that research in systematic way will give results while without well-organised manner research would can not find the result.
Dr Mughal highlighting research programme of Higher Education Commission (HEC) and funding for the purpose said that Rs 16 billion are available for distribution among research scholars and every scholar can get it by submitting of research proposals.
Dr Mughal said that HEC has launched 15 research programmes for funding, training oriented and other programmes for funding to scholars for the research.
He said that HEC has been providing funding to Universities and also scholar individually for different programmes. He said that according to his experience more then 50 percent science equipment in universities are out of order and added that HEC on submission of proposal has been providing funding to scholars for science equipment in the laboratories.
He said that universities must develop research projects and apply for funding from HEC for organising of national and international seminars, works hops and symposiums.
Dr Mughal said that in some other areas the HEC has been providing funding to scholars and added that every teacher from the public sector university can get benefit from available funds provided by the HEC.
