The law enforcement agencies on Monday allegedly entered the flats of Capital Development Authority (CDA) in sector G-6 to get them vacated from the earthquake affectees. The affectees resisted the move, terming the action of government agencies against the family norms.
Interior Ministry had directed Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration to get the flats vacated. Over 300 families had taken shelter in these flats soon after the devastating October 8, 2005 earthquake.
Around 150 families have gone back and 180 families are still living in these flats and have refused to vacate flats.
On Monday morning, personnel of law enforcement agencies including ICT administration arrived at the site and tried to drag out the residents, forcibly.
Reacting, the occupants refused to leave flats saying that in such a situation, they would prefer to die in Islamabad rather than to move high altitudes where the temperature is below freezing.
