Managing Director (MD) Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan (USC) Brigadier Hafeez Ahmad (Retd) has said that old prices of the daily use commodities at USC will be applicable from Wednesday, January 17 after end of Prime Minister's Eid Package.
While talking to media-men after inaugurating the first franchised utility store at Valencia Housing Society here on Monday, Hafeez said that the USC had earned Rs 400 million net profit last year.
He added that 150 licenses of franchised stores had been issued to different parties and the number would be increased with the passage of time. About 1,400 items were being provided to people at low rates to the masses under the Prime Minister's package.He said that around 750 regular and 650 mobile utility stores were working in the country and this number would be further enhanced soon.
To a question he said that there would be no compromise on the quality of products being sold at USC.
He said that 140 utility stores were opened in the far off areas like Skardu, Gilgit, Sibi for the benefit of the people of these areas. He said that the price hike could be controlled through the public-private partnership and the government has taken necessary steps in this regard.
To a question, he said that in the past thin sugar was provided at the utility stores but now thick sugar with substantial sweetness was being provided to the consumers.
He said that about 40 utility stores were working in the Lahore region to provide quality daily use commodities to people at reasonable rates. He added that franchised utility stores would be opened at union council level under the aegis of President Employment Scheme.
He said that in the first phase around 12 franchised utility stores would be opened in the provincial metropolis.
