The lawyers' community boycotted the courts and also took out procession from Aiwan-e-Adal to Punjab Assembly, here on Monday to protest the murder of Additional Advocate General Punjab, Arif Bhinder.
The protesting lawyers chanted slogans against the government as well as police. They also demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and award of exemplary punishment to them.
The procession was led by President Lahore Bar Association Imran Masood Chaudhry. President of the bar has also given strike call for January 16. He announced that their protest will continue till the arrest of the culprits.
While addressing the bar members, Masood said that government had failed to maintain law and order in the province. He asked the government and high police officials to ensure protection of life and property of law-abiding citizens.
Moreover, the lawyers in the Lahore High Court did not appear before the court after 10.30 am. They also wear black strips on their arms. The Lahore High Court Bar Association has also called its general house meeting on Tuesday to chalk out future strategy.
