The Ombudsman Sindh Yousuf Jamal has directed the authority concerned for specified and efficient utilisation of the Sugar Cess Development Fund and to ensure farm-to-market roads facilities to the growers of the areas concerned. This he directed while holding a meeting with different delegations while visiting district Tando Muhammad Khan on Sunday.
He said that he has received many complaints about deteriorating condition of roads constructed to facilitate the growers and added that such roads must be maintained for increasing economic activities in these areas. The Ombudsman also took notice of smoke of three sugar factories near Tando Muhammad Khan that has created pollution and health hazard for the people.
He directed the management of sugar mills and environmental protection agency to evolve strategy and apply protective devises in such a way so that people could be spared from air pollution.
He said that middleman system in agriculture was creating many problems and it must be abolished by all stakeholders. Talking the delegations, Yousuf Jamal also informed that his management has decided to organise a seminar on "Agriculture & Irrigation" in February at Tando Muhammad Khan to identify core issues of agriculture sector and get recommendation of experts.
