Security has been beefed up in Rawalpindi division and more than 20,000 police personnel would be deployed in Rawalpindi during the upcoming month of Muharramul Haram, said Syed Muravet Ali Shah, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Rawalpindi Range here on Tuesday.
"We are keeping a vigilant eye on every person to avoid any untoward incident during this month and no one would be allowed to publish material, which disturb sectarian harmony", Shah said while talking to reporters.
Under the 'Secure Punjab' programme of Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi provincial government took drastic measures to maintain the law and order situation all over province, Shah said adding that like other months security would remain tight during the month of Muharram. Additional measures would also be taken keeping in view the sensitivity of this month, he maintained.
He said that foolproof security arrangements were made outside mosques, Imambargahs, places of Izza and routes of the processions. He said that mosques, Imambargahs and other places in Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum were under heavy security blanket. He said that the DPOs of all four districts were asked to keep complete check on people with extreme sectarian background.
