Roohi Bano who dominated the mini-screen for nearly two decades, is all set to once again show her artistic prowess on TV, as she has almost recovered from her mental ailment that had impeded her art performance over a period of time.
Half-smiling Roohi Bano, was brought to Fountain House, a charitable institution engaged in rehabilitation of schizophrenic patients, a year back in a critical state of health. Her agony was compounded following the murders of her mother Zeenat Begum and son Ali. A team of psychiatrists and psychologists treated Roohi Bano and she has now totally recovered, said Miss Waheeda Noor, Psychologist of Fountain House, Lahore.
On Tuesday, five-part short play was presented before a select gathering at Fountain House in which Roohi Bano depicted the story of her life in the play before the audience. In the first scene, Roohi narrated her struggle for artistic work, in the second scene she turned up before a TV producer for screen test, while in the third scene she was depicted at the helm of her artistic career. Continuing her play in drama, Roohi Bano was shown facing arrogant attitude of producer towards her. In the 5th and last scene, she was seen isolated in this immortal world. At the end of short play, Roohi Bano reiterated that the life is the name of waging of continuous struggle.
Speaking on the occasion, writer, producer and director Jamil Malik said that Roohi Bano after masters in psychology from Government College Lahore had adopted the profession of performing arts as a choice that suited best to her temperament.
He stated that quite a good number of Roohi's fans still remember her as a charming actress and performer par excellence. Her outstanding performances in different serials and long plays set her head and shoulders above many other her contemporary actors. Roohi Bano earned several awards, including the Pride of Performance, for her outstanding work, he stated. The producer applauding the performance of yesteryear star said that in the hay days her performance was such above par that performers of neighbouring country also copied her acting.
Jamil Malik further said that he was happy to note that Roohi Bano had returned to normal stream of life and she was welcomed as ever on the screen that still admires her art and excellence.
He said Roohi's ability to perform had innate ability that blossomed forth with time and the lady acclamation was felt beyond boundaries later on. Speaking on the occasion, leading psychiatrist Professor Dr Haroon Rashid Chaudhry said that Roohi was facing schizophrenic problem but now she totally recovered.
