Sales tax refunds issue tops collectors moot agenda

The issue of sales tax refund would be on top of the agenda of the collectors' conference on January 23, 2007. It is learnt that the CBR has issued instructions to the collectors of sales tax to thoroughly examine the refund-related issues and bring every information pertaining to sales tax refunds.
The collectors should have maximum information to respond to the queries during the conference, CBR said. The refund payment/pendency during January would also be discussed during the conference.
Sources said that the CBR would discuss measures to resolve problems confronted by exporters in obtaining refunds. During the conference, major focus would be on the payment of sales tax refund to different sectors, particularly textile.
