US Plains hard red winter wheat basis bids were steady to weaker on Wednesday with supplies seen more than adequate to meet nearby demand, merchants said. An influx of rail and truck wheat into the Wichita area pushed the basis there back 5 cents a bushel and bids were pulled in Newton, Kansas.
There was no basis change along the river in Catoosa, Oklahoma. "We're still pretty iced over. It's real quiet," said a wheat dealer there. Though truck and rail car wheat was slowed recently by a winter storm that blanketed the Plains, movement was more than adequate to meet limited demand, merchants said.
Recent storms have brought moisture to the Plains region, improving prospects for new-crop wheat. More moisture was forecast for the end of the week.
