The 16-inch diameter SSGC's Indus Left Bank Pipeline (ILBP) was ruptured due to powerful explosions near Rattar Village, Tehsil Faiz Gung, District Khairpur, says a press release of SSGC issued here on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at 50km downstream Sukkur towards Karachi at about 08:20pm on Tuesday. The pipeline was carrying 20 mmcfd of natural gas from Nawab Shah to Sukkur City and en route towns and villages. About 30 feet long piece of pipeline was damaged abruptly.
The severe blast that caused damage to the pipeline was clearly an act of sabotage at the hands of unknown miscreants. Local authorities were immediately informed about the incident by SSGC and urgent action taken to shut off the supply of gas for safety of the pipeline and area around the blast. An emergency crew of SSGC engineers and technicians reached the site of the explosion, to carry out the repair work immediately.
Meanwhile, SSGC is maintaining uninterrupted supply of gas to the domestic customers of Lakhi, Pir Jo Goth, Rohri, Khairpur, Kotdiji, Ranipur, Kumb, Setharja, and Mehrabpur through available line pack. The gas supply to industrial customers and CNG stations was immediately stopped to maintain the domestic supplies for maximum period.
