The Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) on Wednesday filed a contempt of court case in the Supreme Court against President Pervez Musharraf.
The counsel for PML(N) filed the petition stating that the statements of the President of Pakistan during the pendency of the case before the Supreme Court and in the presence of the judgement of the court regarding kite flying amount to interference and lowering the authority of the court.
PML (N) joint secretary Saddique-ul-Farooque filed the case through his counsel Muhammad Ikram Chaudhry. The petition says that the suo motu action was taken last year by the Supreme Court amid killing and injuries of innocent citizens by metal wire used in kite flying in Basant celebrations.
The petition says the statement of the President on January 14 stating that the Basant would be celebrated was against law and the Constitution. "The statement of the President amounts to abuse of his power being in the office of the President of Pakistan and the statement in the present scenario amounts to contempt of court," the petition said.
It has been said in the petition that the President has made wilful attempt to undermine and suppress also to abuse his position with intention made wilful efforts and have violated the oath in office by commenting and making a statement on a matter which is pending before the court.
"The statement is authoritative and dictatorial in nature and amounts to superseding the jurisdiction of Supreme Court and the act of President is deliberate interference in the pending proceedings of this court and has lowered its dignity," the petition said.
