Tetra Pak, the food processing and packaging company, has extended a grant of Euro 5 million (Pak Rs 395 million) for the expansion of the School of Science and Engineering (SSE) at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).
Pär Soderlund, Managing Director, Tetra Pak Pakistan announced this while handing over a memento to Dr Khurram Afridi, Project Director, SSE LUMS at the conclusion of a daylong seminar titled, Research and Relevance: Potential Contributions of a Science and Engineering Research School to Pakistan held at the LUMS campus, a spokesman of the company, said here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Pär said: "This is a small token of Tetra Pak's contribution towards the development of School of Science and Engineering at LUMS - in line with our motto protects what's good. It reflects our philosophy of doing business; be it developing the dairy sector or protecting the well-being of the community or the pursuit of new technological frontiers on training the next generation of scientists." "We want to make a positive contribution to the communities, in which we operate, not just as a good employer but also as a good corporate citizen. We will continue to build partnerships and initiate integrated value chain projects to develop local infrastructure and build competence," he added.
The workshop was organised by the School of Science and Engineering, the newest initiative at LUMS, which aims to adapt and introduce the US research university model in Pakistan.
