The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued notice to Secretary Labour Punjab on Wednesday. In the notice Secretary Labour Punjab has been directed to submit reply to the petition filed by a member of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) by February 18, praying to the court to direct the respondent government to formulate laws for carrying maximum load by the labourers.
The petitioner contended that labourers in fruit and other markets were carrying load more than 100 kgs, which is against their fundamental rights. The petitioner contended that Passco and other public institutions had set maximum weight of 100 kgs for the labourers to carry but the employers in private sectors were forcing them to carry weight over 100 kgs.
Earlier, Deputy Director Labour Department appeared before the court and informed that provincial government had sent its recommendations to the federal government in February 2005 for legislation. The court after hearing the officer issued notices to secretary labour and directed him to explain the position of the recommendations of the provincial government pending with the federal government.
