Nusrat Mirza has come up with his eleventh book 'Chhati Arab Israel Jang' Sixth Arab-Israel War). It is an exhaustive study of those events that had led to the recent conflict between Israel and Lebanon where Hezbollah emerged as a force to reckon with.
The thirty-three day war between a nuclear power and a handful of people committed to the cause of peace and respect to human dignity has proved to the world that it is not the might of the forces but it is the will and determination to serve the cause of the poor and the downtrodden that brings victory.
This is an informative book. Event that invited the conflict and that subsequently led to Hezbollah's victory are recorded in chronological order. It has made it possible to understand and remember the entire situation in which the war was fought. To avoid unnecessary descriptive style and to opt for factual recording is not always convenient to follow. Mirza has done it in a masterly manner.
Mirza has maintained the flavour of the language, consistency of thought and flow of his writing. It keeps the reader glued with the pages. There is no feeling of disjointed writing. The writer has, probably, taken care that the psyche of the two people.
Involved in the conflict and of their respective supporters is analysed step by step. Each incident has been explained and reaction of the two sides has been recorded in simple words. There is no direct analytical commentary on the attitude of the USA and the West but the recording of events has been made so meticulously that the contents speak for itself. On page 200 under the heading "America" event beginning from July 12, 2006 to September 15, 2006 are recorded. Statements from the American officials are reflections of their attitude toward the war and its possible outcome.
But at the end of the war it was only frustration that was there to welcome the US officials. Mirza has arranged this information with precision and astuteness of an experienced columnist. Similarly, statements from the OIC on page 291-293, 'Arab and Arab League kay rahnumaon kay Bayanat' on page 269-277 and 'Irani Quaideen kay bayanat' on page 256-259 have been provided as these have appeared in newspapers. These event, if read in one sitting and compared with each other show that except Iran and Syria the others were not much inclined to help diffuse the tension. Statements from the Arab world show that they were reluctant to criticise the USA policy against Hizbollah as it supported Iranian and Syrian stands on the war.
The book is likely to serve as supplementary reading for the students of international relations, those who are willing to keep their general knowledge fresh, analysts engaged in research on the Middle Eastern crisis and commentators who write for the print and electronic media. There is plenty for the Pakistani politicians to learn from the discussion on various issues in the book.
Mirza needs encouragement so that he could come up with more such informative publications. Paper used in the printing is of good quality and the hardbound edition is expected to survive the vagaries of climatic changes that are too frequent these days. The book is dedicated to Syed Hasan Nasrullah, Secretary General Hizbollah.
