Sialkot is not only the hub of cottage industry, but it is also nucleus of brotherhood since long, he added. He vowed that nobody would be allowed to disrupt and pollute the peaceful atmosphere in the district.
Addressing a reception hosted in his honour by the journalist community here, he called upon the journalists that they should fulfil their responsibilities and work for developing sectarian harmony, brotherhood and tolerance in the society.
Rizwan Ullah Baig disclosed that a "Control Room" has been set up for monitoring the proceedings during Muharram and it will work round the clock. At Thana (Police Station) level, peace committees had already been constituted throughout the district, he added.
He said that press serves as bridge between the government and people besides press reports also influence the decisions of the government. The uppermost duties of the journalists was to highlight their reports based on facts without any pressure for resolving the people's problems and pinpoint the difficulties being confronted by the people.
He stressed upon the media persons that they should refrain from publishing baseless and unethical reports for the larger national interest. The healthy and impartial criticism could guide the government functionaries in improving efficiency as well as supportive in overcoming the lapses he added.
