Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) has established 134 National Centres for Rehabilitation of Child Labour (NCRCL) to eliminate forced labour in the country.
Talking to APP here on Saturday, Managing Director, PBM, Brigadier Muhammad Sarfraz (Retd) said, PBM, a body working under the Ministry of Social Welfare and Special Education, is committed to provide the basic necessities of life such as shelter, food, education and healthcare facilities.
Giving brief he said that PBM is making all possible efforts to educate deserving, working and street children. In this regard, he said National Centres for Rehabilitation of Child Labour have been established countrywide since 1995. Muhammad Sarfraz said children between the age of 5 to 14 years are enrolled in these centres. These centres are imparting quality education to children involved in hazardous labour.
Managing Director said over 13,500 students are benefiting from primary education. "PBM introduced monthly stipend for parents at Rs 300 with daily pocket money of Rs 10 to each child apart from free uniform, school bags, stationery and other related items", he added.
Besides rehabilitation centres, he said, we have also launched Child Support Programme in five selected districts of each province. Through this programme, he said, "PBM is also paying Rs 200 per month to the families with one child and Rs 350 with two or more children of school going". The National Policy and Plan of Action on child labour also focuses on the immediate elimination of worst and most hazardous forms of child labour, he added.
