Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Saturday emphasised the need to promote interfaith harmony and find the solution to economic and social security problems to tackle the issue of extremism. He was talking to former Prime Minister of Norway Kjell Magne Bondevik, who met him at the Chaklala Air Base.
The Prime Minister said the widening gap between the West and Islam should be bridged to promote interfaith harmony and improve relations between Islam and the West.
Shaukat Aziz said there was a need to look at the commonalties of Islam and West, adding that understanding of the religion should be promoted. The Prime Minister said sense of deprivation, and lack of dispute resolution, income, justice and lack of equability were the major causes to create distance between the Islam and the West.
Shaukat Aziz said Pakistan attached great importance to its relations with Norway, and lauded the Norwegian development assistance to Pakistan and role played by the NGOs of Norway to help the affected people after October 2005 earthquake.
