The 'Hamara Karachi' festival was aimed to bring the public of the metropolis closer to one another and to highlight the Karachi's cultural and historical heritage. Addressing a press conference on Saturday at Karachi Press Club (KPC) Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil expressed deep satisfaction over the outcome of the 'Hamara Karachi' festival.
"This festival was not a government programme, it was an festival for the entire city, which was made successful by its inhabitants," she said. "The recreational facilities normally available to the rich, were made available to the deprived section of the society, who attended it in a large number across the city," she said.
She pointed out that the festival had also helped bring people together from all walks of life, particularly from different ethnic groups with different languages, castes, sects, religion, and political backgrounds.
Nasreen said that this festival helped the youth to acquaint themselves with the historical heritage of Karachi and also encouraged girls and women to take part actively with their families.
'Hamara Karachi' festival has provided a sense of belonging to citizen toward Karachi, which should leave positive results in a long run. Naib Nazim apprised that multinational and local companies sponsored 'Hamara Karachi' festival for 13 consecutive days in all the 18 towns of the city. She also acknowledged the journalist community for making the festival successful giving it a proper coverage.
