District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood has said that an amount of Rs 11 billion would be spent in next three years for providing high-quality civic amenities to the people of Lahore under a special package of Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi.
He revealed this while presiding over a meeting of the heads of development agencies of the city on Saturday. District Co-ordination Officer Muhammad Ijaz, Managing Director Wasa Nadeem Hassan Asif, Managing Director Traffic Engineering Planning Authority (Tepa) Brigadier Naveed Mushtaq (Retd) and Chief Engineer LDA Asif Hameed Khan besides other concerned officials attended the meeting.
Mian Amer, while giving details of the package, said that an amount of Rs6.5 billion would be spent on the development of road infrastructure in the city under this package and number of new roads would also be constructed besides upgrading existing roads. Improvement of water supply and sanitation of liquid waste facilities would cost Rs3.5 billion while an amount of Rs500 million would be allocated for the purchase of land for setting up two landfill sites for scientific disposal of solid waste in Lahore, he added.
The district Nazim constituted three committees for formulating recommendations in the fields of Metropolitan Planning, improvement of water supply and drainage and development of road sector. These committees would submit their proposals within a week's time.
He directed these committees for devising a comprehensive and synchronised action plan for execution of this package, keeping in view the requirements of local population. He asked for ensuring utilisation of development funds to the optimum level in order to improve quality of life of the people as well as providing them a sense of uplift in their surroundings.
