Two policemen were wounded on Sunday when a remote-controlled bomb exploded near a police van, police said. The roadside bomb went off when a police emergency squad was patrolling in the town of Tank, near the rugged tribal region of South Waziristan, police officer Atiq Wazir told AFP.
"It was a targeted attack, carried out by an improvised explosive device," he said, adding that two policemen were wounded, one of them seriously.
It was the first attack targeting security forces in the region since Pakistan military helicopter gunships destroyed a suspected Al-Qaeda hideout in the Zamzola area of South Waziristan last Tuesday.
"We have launched an investigation, and it is too early to link Sunday's blast with the situation in South Waziristan," the police official said.
