Mobile Crime Unit of Capital City Police Karachi has obtained a toll free number 0800-91515. After installation/operation of this toll free number, which would start functioning very soon, police will be connected with CPLC and PTA in their existing system of blocking the stolen/ snatched mobile phones.
A press release issued here on Sunday said that the DIGP/Investigation Zone-II, Mir Zubair Mehmood gave presentation about the unit to Inspector General of Police, Sindh Jahangir Mirza at Central Police Office.
He said that toll free number having six lines, would be made operated to encourage citizens to lodge their complaints immediately with special reference to mobile phone snatching/theft.
This would help facilitate compilation of comprehensive database and provide basic to analyse crime pattern for adopting appropriate measures to combat, he added.
For this very purpose software was also being developed and guideline instructions in this regard have been communicated to all concern. 147 personnel of Madadagar-15 have also been imparted training with respect to operation of the software, he added.
The IGP was informed that the unit was analysing the interrogation reports of the criminals involved in this crime besides compiling a database for reference and suggesting measures.
He said that 984 such interrogation reports of the suspects/criminals have been analysed by the unit so far.
The IGP asked the DIGP to educate people about the usefulness of the very facility by way of an awareness campaign particularly in electronic and print media.
The meeting was attended among others by the Capital City Police Officer, Karachi Azhar Ali Farooqui, Additional IG, Special Branch, Babar Khatak, DIGP/Headquarters, Saud Ahmed, DIGP/Operations Syed Mushtaq Shah and DIGP/Investigation Zone-II, Mir Zubair Mehmood.
