Pillion riding in Multan and Vehari districts has been prohibited with immediate effect to avert any eventuality, however old-age persons, women and member of law enforcing agencies are exempted of these restrictions.
DPO Multan Munir Ahmed Chishti said," since Multan is declared as a sensitive area, we have banned the pillion riding for ten days to avert any terrorist activity," He further said that Rangers would assist the police during Muharram-ul-Haram and army might be called out for the assistance of civil administration. Foolproof measures have been taken in the area and Police, elite force are patrolling in sensitive areas.
Police also took part in flag march, which terminated at Police lines after passing through all streets and Bazars of Multan and Vehari cities. The Civil Defence has also finalised foolproof security arrangements to maintain sectarian harmony and cope with any unpleasant incidents during Muharram. A spokesman of District Civil Defence Multan said Civil Defence officials would perform their duties during mourning processions from 1st to 10th Muharram.
He said two bomb disposal squads and four technical sweeping squads had been recruited. One bomb disposal squad would be deputed near 15 Police and the second one in the relief camp during first 10 days of Muharram. The technical sweeping squad will screen the way and streets with modern equipment where the procession is schedule to march.
