The Founders Chairman Dr Khalid Javed Chaudhry has urged Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar Khan to amend the articles in the constitution of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) so as to hold the election of office-bearers of chamber on one vote/one candidate basis.
In a statement here on Sunday he said this move will help end the monopoly of the minority portion of the traders/industrialists in the LCCI. LCCI is the only chamber of the country where the one voter could vote for every seat, he said.
He further demanded that the new registration of traders/industrialist should only be carried out after amending the disputed articles. He said that oil prices be reduced further so that dearness in the country can be ended and economy of the country could prosper and develop further.
Dr Khalid Javed Chaudhry also welcomed the Trade Ordinance 2006 and termed it a positive step towards the traders' organisations. He said this ordinance will help eliminate the fictitious organisations and bogus voters and now the real traders will get the membership of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce (LCCI).
