Sobhraj Maternity Hospital, the biggest maternity hospital of city government, is facing death of basic facilities, as city government remained indifferent from its plights.
Hospitals have two ambulances and a van, with registration number X-674803, standing out of order at its compound for last years and have almost destroyed owing to exposure to sunlight and rainwater.
An official of the hospital told there was not even a vehicle to bring medical staff in case of emergency to hospital but only a Suzuki pickup which is used for all purposes.
The hospital building, constructed in 1928 with stones, lacks suitable lighting arrangement. The sanitary condition in hospital particularly in private rooms is deteriorating and there is not even proper water supply in bathrooms, he said.
He stated as due to lack of water, salty subsoil water was supplied to bathrooms which resulted in rustiness of iron water pipes.
Concerned department in city government was contacted to resolve this problem but they did not respond except to dug up bathrooms for installation of new pipelines, he maintained.
On average over 5,000 patients visit OPD of Sobhraj Hospital every month, 750 get admission while 400 women admitted for child deliver and half of them undergo operation and most of patients are from middle or poor families.
The hospital immediately required an emergency van to cater needs of 225-member staff besides better arrangements for lighting and water supply to facilitate patients and their visitors, he added.
