Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) has demanded of Petroleum Ministry to further reduce prices of diesel up to Rs 12 per litre and petrol to Rs 11, respectively, otherwise programme would be devised to observe countrywide strike after 10th Muharram-ul-Haram.
In a statement issued on Sunday, KTI chief Syed Irshad Hussain Bukhari, General Secretary Syed Mahmood Afridi and others deplored despite of fact petroleum prices were curtailed twice over last few days in international market federal government had reduced prices marginally to befool transporters and public.
They noted national economy largely depends on diesel and all commuters and goods vehicles run on it and only Re 1 reduction in diesel price was unacceptable.
Petroleum prices should be taken back to prices about 19 months ago when diesel was Rs 29.06 per litre and petrol was Rs 45.53, they demanded.
They warned to stop all means of transports from Karachi to Khyber for an indefinite period and Petroleum ministry and OGRA will be responsible of all consequences.
Meanwhile, Inter-city and Inter-provincial transport organisations has also assured their support to adopt strategy for strike against petroleum prices.
