At least three security men were killed and nine others were injured when a suicide car bomb exploded near an army convoy in the tribal region on Monday, the army said.
"The bomber or (bombers) exploded a white colour car near the army's administrative convoy in North Waziristan tribal region at 10:30 am," the Director General Inter-Services Public Relations Major General Shaukat Sultan said.
Sultan told private Geo television that some among the injured soldiers are in serious condition. The attack was carried out when the army convoy was heading to Bannu, a major city near the tribal region from the North Waziristan tribal region.
No group claimed the responsibility, but the security forces suspect militants are behind the attack. The army spokesman said that search operation was conducted and area cordoned off after the attack. This is the second attack on security personnel in tribal region in two days.
Two policemen of the emergency mobile unit were injured on Sunday when a remote control bomb hit their vehicle near South Waziristan tribal region. The fresh attacks have happened few days after the air strike by Pakistani forces in South Waziristan last week, which had killed several people.
The army spokesman said that helicopters and aircraft were used to hit compounds of militants in Zamazola area of South Waziristan. Local tribesmen rejected the army claim about the militants' presence and said innocent labourers were killed in the attack.
A militant leader Baitullah Mehsood had condemned the air strike and had warned that the militants will take revenge. But the army spokesman Major General Shaukat Sultan had said that 25 to 30 militants were getting training when their three compounds were bombarded.
