The payphone companies have requested the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) to process the cases of central excise refunds issued in the past through an Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee (ADRC) or a committee comprising independent tax experts.
Sources told Business Recorder on Tuesday that certain payphone companies have approached the Board for settlement of dispute through ADRC. An application has been moved under the relevant provisions of law for processing of the case under ADRC.
As a second option, the companies have also asked the CBR to constitute an independent committee comprising senior tax experts and lawyers. On CBR's directive, the committee could independently give its findings on the whole issue.
Sources said that these companies are ready to endorse the findings of any of these two options. In case of ADRC, one of the members included is collector of sales tax. Even then they are ready to accept the impartial findings.
