Khalid Mehmood Sanghera Division President of All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) said the Association was grateful to the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz for taking personal interest in their affairs and said it was a manifestation of his commitment to the development of less privileged sections the society.
Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, he said that Prime Minister on Monday has met the longstanding demand of clerical community for the upgradation of their various posts had been accepted and the additional demands would be considered at the time of budget keeping in view the availability of resources.
He said that Prime Minister said the government was mindful of the important role that the clerical community played in the functioning of the government and was keen to bring about a meaningful change in the quality of their life. Prime Minister, according to him, said the economic policy of the government was based on the doctrine of growth with equity and development with dignity and said: "We are particularly focussing to improve the standard of living of less privileged sections of society." He said the government had been consistently improving the compensation packages of the employees belonging to low income groups to enable them to lead a respectable life and provide better facilities to their families.
"We will continue with this policy," the Prime Minister said. He said the government was working on a plan to build 10,000 to 15,000 houses to be provided to low income employees of the federal government an ownership basis. The employees will be able to get loans from the commercial banks to make payments for these houses, he said.
He said Pakistan Muslim League led the struggle for the creation of Pakistan and unprecedented development had taken place in the country as a result of the steps taken by the government of Pakistan Muslim League (PML) and its allies during the last seven years.
Shaukat Aziz said the people of Pakistan were politically aware and fully realised and appreciated the dedication and commitment of the government to the development of the country and the prosperity of its population. The PML and its allies will contest and win the next general elections on the basis of their performance, he said.
The prime minister said to prepare the population to face the challenges of globalisation, the government had brought changes in the education system of public owned institutions which will lead to significant improvement in the educational standards. He said the government was focusing on skill training and Navtec had been given the target to complete the training of 100,000 persons in the prioritised fields by the end of 2007. The delegation thanked the Prime Minister for approving some of their longstanding demands which would be announced in the 2007-08 budget.
