Dr Faiza Asghar, Chairperson, Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CPWB) Punjab and adviser to Punjab Chief Minister said that government would provide protection to child-beggars, orphans, and neglected children from March 1st and there would be no child in streets or Bazars begging or straying while Rescue 1121 would start functioning from that day.
Addressing a press conference here along with Programme Director Zubair Ahmed Shad, she said that our teams would take such children under 15 in its custody who would be vagrant and they would be produced before the court to keep them in custody for 24 hours.
During this we would search their parents and would investigate their cases why were they sent for begging. If their parents refused to keep their children with them due to financial and economic stress then they would be protected by the government for six months with the permission of the court and they would be educated and trained in different skills.
She said that unclaimed or orphan children would be adopted for three years and minimum 200 children could be housed at a time in the institution. Three reception centres at Railway station, General Bus Stand and Shah Rukn-I-Alam Colony would be established in Multan.
