Powerloom workers and owners observed strike and established a hunger strikers camp at Chowk Manzoorabad at the call of All Pakistan Powerlooms Association (APPA) as a protest against load shedding and over billing of electricity.
The hunger strikers camp was joined by Khaliq Qandeel Ansari, central secretary general of APPA, Mufti Hidayatullah Pasroori, Chief of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), Saeed Ahmed Saeedi, Haji Bashir Ahmed, Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor, Muhammad Younas, Abdul Ghaffar, Rafaqat Munir, Abdul Rehman, Khalid Pervez, Rana Taj Deen, Muhammad Ilyas Pehalwan, Muhammad Ramzan Jani and Tahir Ali.
Addressing the participants Khaliq Qandeel said that more than 2,00,000 powerlooms have so far been closed in the country due to over billing and load shedding of electricity and this industry was dwindling down day by day. Pakistan would not be able to meet the demand of foreign buyers if the power crisis was not resolved on war footing.
He said that textiles contributes 70 percent in country's total exports if government does not introduce subsidised tariff for exportable items industry them it would not be possible to meet the challenges of world market and to maintain the exports.
