Food processing industry, oil and gas exploration and information technology are the core areas of investment in Pakistan and Pak-Canadian Business Council can play an important role in business promotion between the two countries.
Prime Minister of Ontario province of Canada Dalton Mcguinty stated this during a meeting with Governor Punjab Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd), here on Monday.
Economic development and trade minister of his cabinet Candra Pupatello and Minister of Small business and entrepreneurship Harinder S Takhar, Canadian High Commissioner in Islamabad David Colling, Canadain member parliament of Pakistani origin, Dr Shafique Qadri and others were also present on the occasion.
Ontario Premier also praised the policies of the present government and said Pakistan government is investing good amount in human capital. Dalton Mcguinty said Ontario province with 100,000 Pakistanis was making an important contribution to the Canadian economy. He said international community at present is much more interdependent on each other as compared to past.
He said that he believes in resolving all issues through dialogue. Canada is providing cooperation for teacher training programme at educational institutions in Pakistan, he added.
Welcoming the delegation, the governor said Canada as a nation enjoyed great respect in Pakistan. He said Pakistan's economy was growing at a fast pace. He said the government of Pakistan is encouraging trade with regional countries including Afghanistan and playing important role in reconstruction of Afghanistan.
Moreover, Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool, while addressing the inaugural session of 'Second Stakeholder Consultation on Teacher Development: Future Directions' organised by Directorate of Staff Development (DSD) here on Monday, said the government has given an integral and futuristic vision to the promotion of education sector with focus on primary to higher education.
He said Punjab government was taking lead in the promotion of quality education and provision of free textbooks to students and missing facilities in educational institutions had resulted into drastic changes in this vital sector.
He said the government was focusing to ensure better educational prospects for children of commoners so that they could also get key positions in various sectors.
In her welcome address, DSD Project Director Rukhsana Zia said DSD achieved a lot in the area of professional development of teachers and initiated first phase of establishing support network for primary school teachers (PSTs) in 12 districts of Punjab with 702 Cluster Training and Support Centres.
