Punjab Governor, Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) has said that the government is committed to the development of livestock sector for poverty alleviation in the country. He stated this during his visit to the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore on Tuesday.
The governor said that for the development of the livestock sector, new courses related to veterinary and animal sciences were being launched to produce skilled manpower in the field. He said that veterinary science faculties had been started in the Islamia University Bahawalpur, Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan and Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi while a College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences had been established in Jhang.
He further said that short training courses related to livestock; dairy, fisheries and wildlife had been introduced in the UVAS, Lahore. The University of Agriculture Faisalabad in collaboration with the National Commission for Vocational and Technical Education (Nevtec) to provide skilled manpower to the dairy and poultry industries and the livestock sector.
Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Manzoor Ahmad briefed the Chancellor/Governor on the development works in the university. He said that five new blocks had been constructed for the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, Faculty of Bioscience, Teacher-Student Centre, Post-mortem Teaching Block and University Pet Centre with the support of the Punjab government and the Higher Education Commission.
The governor also took a round of the new blocks and lauded the quality of work in the post-mortem section and installation of state-of-the-art equipment for post-mortem and disposing of dead animals.
