Pakistan Kissan Movement (PKM) Secretary General Chaudhry Hanif Gujjar has urged Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to turn down demand of the textile industry regarding duty-free import of cotton from India.
Talking to a group of media person here on Wednesday, Gujjar said the country has witnessed many mafias, hailing from different industries, including sugar, cement, leather, garments, while now spinners have formed a new mafia to press the government over undue demands.
Referring to the demand raised by the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) seeking duty-free import of cotton from India, Gujjar said the government should reject any such anti-farmers proposal.
According to him, the farmer-friendly policies of the prime minister have brought unimaginable relief and comfort for the farming community. He said the farmers are getting attractive price of sugarcane ranging between Rs 100 and Rs 120 per maund during last crushing season and Rs 1,400 per maund for cotton this year and all credit goes to Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and his economic managers.
