Punjab government has allocated an amount of Rs 54.33 million for the development programme of Fisheries department for the current fiscal year with a view to promote aqua-culture and fisheries related activities in the province.
According to a handout, Punjab Fisheries Director General Dr Muhammad Ayub, while giving details about seven ongoing schemes, informed that Rs 6.67 million for studies on physiological reproductive behaviour of carnivorous fish species, Rs 6.56 million for upgradation of fisheries research and training activities, Rs 4.36 million for strengthening of publicity and information service and Rs 11.42 for improvement and renovation of fish seed production units would be spent.
He further said that Rs 8.82 million for introduction of Intensive Rearing, Rs 2.5 million for establishment of Fish Seed Hatchery at Rahim Yar Khan would also be spent for establishment of Mahseer Fish Hatchery. He said that Rs 14.02 would be spent on seed rearing for stock replenishment in semi-cold natural water bodies of province.
