Punjab Minister for Population Welfare, Nasim Lodhi, in a meeting here on Wednesday has directed all the district officers to play proactive role in creating awareness about implications of over-population so as to expedite socio-economic development of the country.
She added government was endeavouring to encourage public-private partnership to check population growth. She urged the district officers to accelerate the pace of ongoing public awareness campaign highlighting advantages of a small family and disadvantages of big family so that population could be controlled. She said that the idea of small family and effective implementation of women education programme has resulted in lessening the pressure on resources. She further stated that under the dynamic leadership of Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi living standard of the people has been improved.
She said the credit also goes to media as it was playing active role in creating awareness about implications of over-population. She said the Population Welfare Department was only offering the masses with a right choice, dispelling the impression to ask individuals to maintain two children only, to create balance between their resources and family size.
