Two suspected serial child killers were beaten up by a furious mob outside an Indian court on Thursday after being remanded in custody over the horrific murders of 21 people.
Businessman Moninder Singh Pandher was battered unconscious, and his domestic help, Surender Kohli, was roughed up as they were led from the court near the Indian capital in a dramatic brawl shown live on television. "Some lawyers and some members of the public who were present at the court premises beat up both the men," a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official said. "We are investigating how this incident happened. The accused have been taken to hospital for a medical check-up," a CBI spokesman added.
Pandher's condition was stable, while Kohli had been discharged from the hospital, news reports said. The pair have been in police custody since their arrest on December 29 over the kidnap, rape and murder of at least 21 people, most of them children, in a New Delhi suburb.
