Indus Motor Company stated in response to certain reports in some sections of the press where its director Corporate Planning & Customer Relations, Shah Saad Husain, has been misquoted.
The company clarified that the local car industry is being adversely affected by the imports of used cars and the industry has no intention whatsoever of importing used cars. The local auto industry repeatedly pointed out in the past also that domestic automobile demand should be met by local automobile production.
In this context, the auto industry, including vendors, has made billions of rupees of investment and is continuously increasing production. In fact, currently local production is exceeding demand, and therefore, there is no reason for import of used cars.
They lauded the role of Ministry of Industries, which along with the auto industry in consultation with all stakeholders, is working to formulate a long-term policy to provide employment, technology transfers and both local and foreign investment on a sustainable basis.
