The newly established Women Chambers of Commerce and Industry (WCCI) has thanked President Pervez Musharraf and Federal Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar for enacting law on the creation of separate chambers for women.
Addressing a joint press conference on Saturday, the WCCI chairperson Anila Iftikhar said that women handwork has very rich potential in US and Europe and the work is being streamlined.
She said that at least 300 women have become members of Multan WCCI and it is planning to hold workshops to develop export-oriented skills among skilled women of handwork and embroidery. The women's work would be categorised for national and international markets. Anila Iftikhar said the government has been giving subsidy to women in exhibitions abroad, daily cash and providing free stalls while Pakistani commercial attachés abroad were playing key role in the promotion of women business.
However, she asked the government for commissioning of international flights from Multan airport because this has been creating problems to women to book their seats from Lahore or Karachi. The WCCI executive committee members who spoke on the occasion were Nasim Rahim, Humaira Zahid, Zohra Jabeen and Shafqat Rehan.
