The Human Rights Committee of the Sindh Bar Council (SBC) has condemned the disappearance of 120 at the hands of intelligence personnel, killing of 30 and injuries to more than 100 advocates during 2006 and demanded the recovery of the disappeared people and arrest of the killers of advocates.
The meeting of the SBC held under the chairmanship of Aqil Lodhi has adopted resolutions condemning the inability of the government to protect people from the perpetrators of crime against the peaceful and responsible citizens of the country.
Through one of its resolution, the committee has appealed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take note of the disappearance of 120 people and initiate action necessary to recover the disappeared people.
Other resolutions have demanded immediate release of all political prisoners and restoration of rule of law in the country. The committee has also appealed to President Musharraf to resign from army and wait for two years before contesting elections. The resolution has also pointed out that under Article 44(2) General Musharraf cannot contest for the office of the president for the third time.
